Hattons was established by Norman Hatton in 1946 after leaving the British army at the end of World War 2. He bought a small shop in Smithdown Road, where he sold anything that was in demand after the war. Things we take for granted today were in high demand with little supply to be found. Items such as firewood, second hand toys and fireworks sold very well.
Gradually he found toys and particularly model trains were forming the bulk of the business and that, by advertising, customers could be obtained nationwide. Norman would often buy in collections of pre-owned items or trade them against newer models and this principle still applies today, albeit on a bigger scale. We buy collections of all model vehicles, particularly trains, diecast road vehicles & planes & plastic kits, from all around the world.
Our online database has hundreds of thousands of items from model manufacturers, dating from the 1940s to the current day.
