In the mid-2010s, DB Cargo UK sought to replace their ageing fleet of 4-wheel aggregate hopper wagons - one such replacement design was the MXA open wagon. These were built by Axiom Rail, using the redundant frames from previous 50+ year old BDA bogie bolster wagons built by British Rail, with new tops fitted for aggregates to be loaded into. DB Cargo continued the longstanding tradition of providing wagons with fishkind names, so the MXAs have been chtistened 'Lobsters'. |
