The Class 18 (or Clayton Equipment CBD90) is a fleet of battery powered shunting locomotives currently in production. The locomotives weigh 99 tons and are powered by 524kWh lead-acid batteries which can be charged from a mains supply, or derive power from an onboard diesel engine. Clayton intend for the class to replace the ageing fleet of Class 08 and Class 09 locomotives on shunting duties in private sidings and yards across the UK. |
