The South Eastern and Chatham railway produced a huge number of small open goods wagons for a variety of purposes. Some of the most common were their 5 & 7-plank designs of which 700 were built of the former and over 2000 of the latter. These robust wagons remained in use throughout Southern Railway ownership and amazingly several remained in use up until the 1970s with British Rail. These designs could be seen across the entire SECR network but were also known to be used in East Anglia and even as far away as Scotland.
