The British Rail Mark 5 is the designation given to locomotive-hauled rail carriages built by Spanish manufacturer CAF for operation with Caledonian Sleeper and TransPennine Express. Although similar in design, the coach types produced for each operator differ greatly to cater for the services they are required for. The Mk5A coaches for TransPennine services run as fixed five-carriage sets with 1 first class coach, 3 standard class and 1 standard driving trailer for operation with a Class 68 locomotive. These services were branded as "Nova 3". For Caledonian Sleeper, four coach types were produced; Club Car, Seated Car, Sleeper Car and Accessible Car for use on Sleeper train services from London to Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Highlands via the West Coast Main Line. |
