A fleet of Diagram 72 10t vans were introduced in 1911 by the Great Eastern Railway. They were constructed to a 10ft 6in wheelbase and were used on a variety of freight workings. Originally designated as 10t vans, they were downgraded to 8t in June 1927. The vans had a long lifespan, with many still in revenue earning service in the late 1950s. In BR use, they could often be seen as part of engineering trains. (Information provided via Oxford Rail) |
