In the Early 1990s, National Power developed plans to run its own fleet of trains to provide coal for Drax Power Station in the North East. To realise this they orderted Class 59 locomotives and a fleet of 85 bogie hopper wagons. Originally coded as JMAs, these later became HKA wagons. After National Power sold its rail operations to EWS, much of the fleet was stored out of service. They were later refurbished and re-used by DB Cargo and continue in operation to this day. |
