The Peckett B2 was a class of six-coupled, industrial saddle tank type locomotives produced in the early 20th century. The B2 was an advancement of the earlier B1 design and appeared more compact, although in reality it actually featured a larger cab and external coal bunker. The first of the class (No. 1051) was sold to Trimsaran Colliery in Wales in 1905 and further new locomotives were produced at a rate of around four per year until 1931. The production run lasted longer than the smaller 0-4-0 W4 design as the B2 class were intended for use on a wider variety of industrial railways including coalfields, steel mills and dockyard sites. The class could still be seen in use as late as the 1970s, particularly with the NCB. Two of the class have been preserved. (Information provided via Hornby) |
