The Double Fairlie is a locomotive type built to Robert Fairlie's revolutionary articulated locomotive design that comprised of a dual ended locomotive, with two bogies that were both driven. He believed that conventional locomotives were inefficient and wasted weight on carrying wheels and tenders and also wished to create a locomotive that operated well in either direction. After the first of their locomotives was delivered, the Ffestiniog line was able to produce more without paying patent fees. |
