Based initially on a design for use in Norway, fifteen 'Manx Peacocks' have been built for the 3ft gauge Isle of Man Railway system between 1873 and 1926. The design was improved over that period, with several modifcations, but the locomotives remained in the same distinctive style. The locomotives were the sole motive power for the railway (with the exception of three locomotives inherited from the Manx Northern Railway in 1905) until recent times, and all but one of the fleet survives today in some form, with several still in operation on their native line.
