The LMS first experimented with diesel shunting locomotives before the Second World War and the Class 08 design owes much to the work done prior to Nationalisation. At 49 tons and with a tractive power of 35,000lbs, the 08's were more than suited for their task. Type 7 motor fitted to SSPP chassis.
